Uganda betting table
The table sets each bookmaker’s welcome offer beside its licence and the way it handles your money: Ugandan shillings through MTN MoMo and Airtel Money, or crypto. Sites on the NLGRB register carry a “Licensed in Uganda” tag, and the filter splits them from the international and crypto brands. Open a card to see payment methods, apps and the details behind each offer.

Our top pick in Uganda
22Bet is our top pick in Uganda right now. NLGRB-licensed for online sports betting and casino through Arcadia Hospitality, with shilling accounts, MTN Mobile Money and Airtel Money in the cashier and a 100% first deposit match up to USh 550,000. 1xBet is next in our ranking.
25+ · New customers · T&Cs apply
The right pick depends on how you play. Someone who puts small weekend accumulators on Premier League games should look hardest at mobile money withdrawals and how quickly the first payout clears; a punter chasing a large welcome bonus needs to know how many times it must be rolled over. If you already hold USDT or bitcoin rather than a MoMo balance, one of the crypto sites may fit better.
NLGRB licence
The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) licenses sports betting, casino, bingo, lottery and gaming machine operators under the Lotteries and Gaming Act, 2016, and publishes a notice of the licences it has issued for each year. The 2026 list gives every operator’s company name, trade name, website, licence type, mode of operation and licence number.

| Site | Licence | Licensed for | Visit |
|---|---|---|---|
| National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board | General betting and casino (online) | Visit 22Bet | |
| National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board | General betting (online) | Visit 1xBet |
Among the sites we compare, 22Bet and 1xBet appear on the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board list of licensed operators for 2026.
Other familiar names on the 2026 list include Betika, BetPawa, Fortebet, Premier Bet, Bangbet and Bongo Bongo. The list is renewed every year, so a brand that held a licence in 2025 is not automatically on the 2026 notice.
Many Ugandan operators hold several licences at once — for online betting, for their betting shops and for gaming machines. Each row on the list is tied to one mode of operation, online or land based, so check the row that matches the website or app you actually use.
International sites
Brands without an NLGRB entry work under licences from authorities such as Curaçao or Anjouan and show them at the foot of their websites. BetWinner opens UGX accounts funded with MTN and Airtel mobile money, whereas the crypto sites below run on USDT, bitcoin and other coins rather than shillings.

A Ugandan welcome bonus usually matches part or all of your first deposit and then asks you to roll the bonus over on accumulators before any of it becomes withdrawable. 22Bet, for example, matches 100% up to USh 550,000. Some crypto sites offer rakeback — a slice of every stake handed back — instead of a matched deposit.

Payments
Mobile money is how most Ugandans fund a betting account. MTN MoMo and Airtel Money are the two wallets that matter: you choose the network in the cashier, type the amount and approve a prompt on your phone with your PIN. Bank transfer, cards and crypto cover the rest.

| Method | Deposits | Withdrawals | Typical speed | Tip |
|---|---|---|---|---|
MTN MoMo | Offered by Ugandan bookmakers | Usually offered | Deposits normally land at once | Use a SIM registered in your own name |
Airtel Money | Offered by Ugandan bookmakers | Usually offered | Deposits normally land at once | Check the limits shown in the cashier |
Bank transfer | Some sites | Some sites | Slower than mobile money | Handy when an amount is above wallet limits |
Visa / Mastercard | Some sites | Often not available | Deposits are instant | Banks can decline gambling payments |
Crypto (USDT, bitcoin) | Crypto and some offshore sites | Crypto and some offshore sites | Depends on the network | Send on the network the cashier names |
Log in, open Deposit and choose MTN Mobile Money or Airtel Money.
Type the amount in shillings and the phone number linked to your wallet.
Wait for the payment prompt on your phone and approve it with your PIN.
If no prompt appears, follow the manual route the cashier gives — through the MTN MoMo menu on *165# or the Airtel Money menu on *185# — with the exact reference shown.
Check that the money shows in your betting balance and keep the SMS receipt until it does.
MTN and Airtel set their own transaction and daily wallet limits, and network charges can apply on top of anything the bookmaker charges.
Income Tax (Amendment) Act, 2026
Since 1 July 2026, operators in Uganda withhold 15% of your net winnings — the payout minus your stake — and pay it to the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA). The rule sits in section 131 of the Income Tax Act as replaced by the Income Tax (Amendment) Act, 2026, which the President signed on 20 August 2026 with effect from 1 July.

| Step | Amount |
|---|---|
| Stake | USh 20,000 |
| Total odds | 4.50 |
| Payout before tax | USh 90,000 |
| Net winnings (payout minus stake) | USh 70,000 |
| Withholding tax at 15% | USh 10,500 |
| Credited to you | USh 79,500 |
Two details matter to punters. The tax is now worked out on the profit rather than on the whole payout, and it covers casino and other gaming wins as well as sports bets. Winnings paid by the holder of the national lottery licence are left out.
Parliament also passed the Lotteries and Gaming (Amendment) Bill, 2026 in April, which puts betting and gaming on a single 30% tax rate charged on operators’ gross gaming revenue — total stakes less payouts. That charge is a bill for the company and is not taken from your slip.
Because the tax is charged on net winnings, a slip that pays back no more than your stake carries no withholding tax.
Cashing out
Ugandan bookmakers normally pay winnings back to the mobile money number you deposited from. The first withdrawal is the slow one: expect an identity check against your National ID or passport, and a running bonus will usually freeze the balance until its rollover is done.

Complete verification early, using the National ID or passport your account is registered under.
Finish or cancel any active bonus so the balance becomes withdrawable.
Open Withdraw, pick MTN MoMo or Airtel Money and enter an amount between the minimum and maximum the cashier shows.
Confirm the request and wait for the SMS from your network.
For a big win, ask support whether the money will be split into several payments or sent by bank transfer, since wallet limits apply.
International and crypto sites often send a withdrawal back through the method you used to deposit, so a USDT deposit normally comes back as USDT to your own wallet address.
Mobile
Nearly all betting in Uganda happens on a phone, often on a tight data bundle. 22Bet has an iOS app built for Uganda, BetWinner offers Android and iOS apps, and every site in the table also runs in a mobile browser.

Markets
Most Ugandan slips are built around the English Premier League, alongside the Champions League, La Liga and the Uganda Premier League, home to clubs such as Vipers, KCCA and SC Villa. Uganda Cranes fixtures draw extra interest, all the more so with Uganda co-hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations with Kenya and Tanzania.

In-play markets change every few seconds once a match kicks off, and a slow connection can see a price move before your bet is accepted. Settle on your stake before the game starts rather than chasing a goal you have just watched.
Ugandan tipsters pass bets around as booking codes that load a whole slip in one tap, but a code only works on the site that created it. Anyone selling “fixed matches” or guaranteed codes is running a scam.
An accumulator multiplies the odds of each selection: a USh 5,000 stake on three legs at 1.70, 1.90 and 2.40 could return USh 38,760 before tax, and one losing leg ends the slip. Test your own picks in the calculator.
Beyond football
Virtual football — computer-simulated matches settled every few minutes — is widely offered by Ugandan bookmakers, both online and in betting shops. A random number generator decides each result, so team form counts for nothing, and the pace makes it easy to lose track of spending.

Jackpots ask you to predict a long run of fixtures for a small stake. The prize can be large, but the chance of every pick landing is tiny, so treat the entry as the price of a game rather than a plan.
Aviator and other crash games are casino products: a multiplier climbs until it stops at a random moment, and you win only if you cashed out first. Since July 2026 the 15% withholding tax applies to net gaming wins as well as sports bets.
Regulation
Yes, for adults aged 25 and over. The Lotteries and Gaming Act, 2016 — now Cap. 334 of the revised laws — defines a minor as anyone below twenty-five, bars licensees from accepting payments from minors or letting them into betting premises, and created the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board to license and supervise the industry.

The age limit applies to online betting and shop betting alike, and Uganda’s threshold of 25 sits well above the 18 that applies in neighbouring Kenya. Brands licensed abroad that accept Ugandan players name their regulator on their own websites, while the NLGRB list shows which companies hold a Ugandan licence and for which activities.
The Board’s responsible gaming directives of November 2025 require licensed operators to show safer-gambling messages, check ages strictly and give players deposit limits, session reminders and self-exclusion.
How we compare
Every bookmaker and crypto site in our Ugandan table is laid out on the same six points, whatever its licence.

Entry on the NLGRB list and licence type, or the overseas licence the operator states.
Mobile money in both directions, plus bank transfer, cards or crypto where offered.
Rollover, qualifying odds, deadline and payment exclusions behind the headline figure.
Stated payout times, withdrawal limits and the identity checks before a first payout.
Android and iOS apps, light mobile sites and how the bet slip works on a small screen.
Premier League, Uganda Premier League and Uganda Cranes coverage, plus live betting.
Getting started

Pick a site from the table and open it from its official address or app.
Register with your MTN or Airtel number — the line you will use for mobile money — and enter the SMS code.
Choose Ugandan shillings (UGX) as the account currency where it is offered; it usually cannot be switched later.
Enter your name and date of birth exactly as on your National ID. You must be 25 or older.
Decide on the welcome bonus before depositing, because some sites need you to opt in first.
Make a first deposit with MoMo or Airtel Money, then set a deposit limit in your account settings straight away.
FAQ
Short answers on NLGRB licences, the age limit of 25, mobile money and the 2026 winnings tax.
The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board publishes a yearly list of licensed operators. The 2026 list includes 22Bet and 1xBet as well as Betika, BetPawa, Fortebet, Premier Bet, Bangbet and Bongo Bongo, each shown with its licence type and number.
It is 25. The Lotteries and Gaming Act treats anyone below twenty-five as a minor, and licensed operators may not take payments from minors or let them into betting premises.
From 1 July 2026, operators withhold 15% of your net winnings — the payout minus the stake — under the Income Tax (Amendment) Act, 2026. It covers casino and other gaming wins as well as sports bets; winnings paid by the national lottery are excluded.
Ugandan bookmakers generally take both wallets. Among the sites we compare, 22Bet and BetWinner list MTN Mobile Money and Airtel Money for accounts in Ugandan shillings.
Rarely. Most welcome offers need a first deposit: 22Bet, for instance, matches 100% up to USh 550,000. Read the rollover and minimum odds first, and never pay anyone to unlock a bonus.
Verify your account with your National ID, clear any active bonus, then open Withdraw, pick MTN MoMo, enter the amount and confirm. The money goes to the number on your account with an SMS from MTN; the first payout can take longer because of the identity check.
Use the time-out or self-exclusion option in your betting account, or fill in the self-exclusion form on the NLGRB website, which lets you choose a period and the operators it covers. The Board’s toll-free line is 0800 285 800.
Set a weekly betting budget from money left over after rent, school fees and food, and never top it up with a mobile loan, a salary advance or a friend’s MoMo. Licensed operators must offer deposit limits, session reminders and self-exclusion under the NLGRB directives, so switch them on early. The Board’s toll-free line, 0800 285 800, and its self-exclusion form are there if betting stops being fun, and Gambling Therapy offers free, confidential support online.
