Quick answer

Our top pick in Kenya
22Bet is our top pick in Kenya right now. Licensed in Kenya for sports betting and casino, with a 100% first deposit bonus of up to KES 15,000 and M-Pesa and Airtel Money in the cashier. BetWinner is next in our ranking.

Your own betting habits decide the right pick. If you stake small amounts on EPL and Kenyan Premier League matches, look first at M-Pesa payouts and the minimum deposit; if you like long multibets, the wagering rules behind the welcome bonus deserve a closer look than its headline amount.
GRA licence
The Gambling Regulatory Authority of Kenya (GRA) licenses betting companies and publishes a list for each trading period, with the company name, trading name, licence numbers and website. It has taken over from the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) under the Gambling Control Act, 2025.

| Site | Licence | Licensed for | Visit |

| Gambling Regulatory Authority of Kenya | Bookmaker and public gaming | Visit 22Bet | |

Other well-known names on the same list include Betika, SportPesa, Odibets, SportyBet, Mozzartbet and Shabiki.
International sites
Sites outside the GRA list can still be used from Kenya: they hold licences from authorities such as Curaçao or Anjouan. BetWinner runs shilling accounts with M-Pesa, while the crypto sites below take deposits in USDT, bitcoin and other coins.

Payments
M-Pesa is the standard way to fund a betting account in Kenya. Licensed bookmakers show a paybill number in the cashier, and many also send an M-Pesa prompt to your phone so you only enter your PIN. Airtel Money, cards and bank transfer are the main alternatives.

| Method | Deposits | Withdrawals | Speed | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
M-Pesa | Accepted almost everywhere | Accepted almost everywhere | Usually credited straight away | Use a line registered in your own name |
Airtel Money | Some sites | Check the cashier | Usually credited straight away | Withdrawal support varies by site |
Visa / Mastercard | Some sites | Not always offered | Payouts to cards take longer | Your bank may decline gambling payments |
Bank transfer | Rarely needed | Offered by some sites | Slower than mobile money | Handy for amounts above M-Pesa limits |
Crypto | Offshore and crypto sites only | Offshore and crypto sites only | Depends on the coin and network | Coins sent on the wrong network can be lost |
Open the cashier on the betting site and choose M-Pesa to see the paybill number and the account reference.
On your phone, open M-Pesa and go to Lipa na M-Pesa, then Pay Bill.
Enter the business number, the account reference and the amount.
Confirm with your M-Pesa PIN and wait for the confirmation SMS.
Check that the deposit shows in your betting balance before you place a bet.
Finance Act, 2026
The Finance Act, 2026, in force since 1 July 2026, sets how betting is taxed in Kenya. Licensed bookmakers deduct the tax and pay it to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), so you may see it as a deduction on deposits and payouts.

| Tax | Rate | Charged on |
|---|---|---|
| Excise duty | 5% | Money you deposit or otherwise make available for betting |
| Withholding tax on betting payouts | 5% | Payouts credited to your betting account |
| Withholding tax on lottery and prize winnings | 20% | Lottery and prize competition payouts |
Until 30 June 2026, withholding tax on betting was charged when you withdrew from your wallet. The Finance Act, 2026 moved it to the moment a payout reaches your betting account, so staking winnings again no longer delays the tax.
Cashing out
Most Kenyan bookmakers pay winnings straight back to M-Pesa. Expect your first payout to take longer: the bookmaker may ask for your ID before it releases the money, and an active bonus normally blocks withdrawals until the wagering is done.

Verify your account with the ID or passport you registered with.
Open the cashier, choose Withdraw and pick M-Pesa.
Enter the amount, staying within the minimum and maximum the cashier shows.
Confirm the request and wait for the M-Pesa SMS.
For large wins, check whether the site pays in parts or by bank transfer, since M-Pesa has transaction and daily limits.
Mobile
Most punters in Kenya bet on a phone. 22Bet, Melbet, 1xBet and BetWinner offer Android and iOS apps, and every site in the table works in a mobile browser.

Markets
Kenyan punters bet mostly on the English Premier League, the Champions League and La Liga, along with the Kenyan Premier League. Harambee Stars matches and AFCON fixtures draw big interest too.

Tipsters in Kenya often share bets as booking codes: type the code into the bet slip and the selections load automatically. A code only works on the bookmaker that issued it, and paid “sure odds” or “fixed match” codes are fraud — no one can know a result in advance.
A multibet multiplies the odds of every leg, so three picks at 1.50, 1.80 and 2.10 turn KES 1,000 into a possible KES 5,670 — but one wrong pick loses the whole slip. Try your own numbers in the calculator.
Jackpots and games
Jackpots such as the SportPesa Mega Jackpot and the Betika Grand Jackpot ask you to call the result of a long list of matches for a small stake. A winning ticket can pay millions of shillings, but very few tickets get every match right, so stake only what you would spend on entertainment.

Many sites add a multibet bonus to winning slips with enough selections. Check the minimum number of legs and the minimum odds per leg before you count on it.
Aviator and other crash games are casino games: a multiplier rises until it stops at a random point, and you have to cash out before it does. Rounds last seconds, so set a budget and a time limit before you play.
Regulation
Betting is legal in Kenya for anyone aged 18 or over. The Gambling Control Act, 2025 replaced the Betting, Lotteries and Gaming Act of 1966, and the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Kenya (GRA) now licenses and supervises operators in place of the BCLB.

The GRA list shows which companies hold a Kenyan licence and for which activities. Brands licensed abroad that take Kenyan customers name their licensing authority on their own websites.
How we compare
Every site in our table is shown against the same six points, whether its licence comes from the GRA or from an overseas authority.

GRA list entry and licence types, or the overseas licence the site names.
M-Pesa and Airtel Money in both directions, plus cards, bank transfer or crypto where available.
Wagering multiplier, odds floor and validity period rather than the headline figure.
Published payout times and withdrawal limits per transaction.
Android and iOS apps or a light mobile site, bet slip clarity, deposit limits and time-outs.
EPL, Champions League and Kenyan Premier League markets, plus live betting.

FAQ
Quick answers on licences, M-Pesa, bonuses and the 2026 tax rules for punters in Kenya.
22Bet is our top pick in Kenya right now. Licensed in Kenya for sports betting and casino, with a 100% first deposit bonus of up to KES 15,000 and M-Pesa and Airtel Money in the cashier. BetWinner is next in our ranking.
The Gambling Regulatory Authority of Kenya publishes the list of licensed companies on its website. For the 2025/26 trading period it includes 22Bet, 1xBet, Melbet, Betika, SportPesa, Odibets, SportyBet, Mozzartbet and Shabiki, among others.
Yes, for anyone aged 18 or over. Betting is regulated by the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Kenya under the Gambling Control Act, 2025, which replaced the Betting, Lotteries and Gaming Act and the BCLB.
Since 1 July 2026, under the Finance Act, 2026, a 5% excise duty applies to money deposited for betting and 5% withholding tax applies to betting payouts credited to your account. Lottery and prize competition winnings carry 20% withholding tax.
M-Pesa is accepted by almost every licensed betting site in Kenya, usually through a paybill number shown in the cashier. Among the sites we compare, 22Bet and BetWinner list both M-Pesa and Airtel Money.
Very few do. Most Kenyan welcome offers need a first deposit: 22Bet gives 100% up to KES 15,000 from KES 150, and Melbet up to KES 25,700 from KES 130. Compare the wagering and minimum odds, and never pay a fee to unlock a bonus.
Verify your account, open the cashier, choose Withdraw and M-Pesa, enter an amount within the site’s limits and confirm. The money arrives in your M-Pesa wallet with an SMS confirmation; the first withdrawal can take longer because of ID checks.
You can ask your betting site for a time-out or self-exclusion in your account settings, and the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Kenya runs a self-exclusion service on its website.
Treat betting as paid entertainment, never as income. Set aside a fixed amount you can afford to lose, keep it apart from rent, school fees and family money, and never bet with Fuliza, mobile loans or borrowed cash. Licensed sites offer deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion, and the GRA runs its own self-exclusion service. Gambling Therapy offers free, confidential help if betting is causing problems.
