Do you pay tax on betting winnings in Ghana?
Not any more. The 10% withholding tax on betting winnings that Ghana introduced in 2023 was removed by the Income Tax (Amendment) Act, 2025 (Act 1129), which became law on 2 April 2025. Since then, a bookmaker should not deduct withholding tax from your winnings.
Tax, operator charges and wallet fees are different things
- Withholding tax on winnings — the deduction that was repealed in April 2025.
- Operator charges — anything the bookmaker itself deducts, for example a withdrawal fee. This is a commercial term set by the operator, not a tax.
